Eczema 3

Eczema cause bath time cut downs
During times when your eczema is at its worst, consider not using any cleanser at all and just carefully wash your body with lukewarm water. If you prefer to use some form of cleanser, use one of the non-soap cleanser ( Aloe Vera Soap or Aloe Vera Scrub www.aloeveraexpress.com) alternatives that are available on the market. For those whose eczema is classed as severe, and showering or bathing is uncomfortable, take a sponge bath and use a gentle product such as Cetaphil which will cleanse the skin but also not contribute to pain or discomfort. Cetaphil is a water-free cleanser that can be purchased at most pharmacies and grocery stores. Go back to taking quick, frequent baths or showers once the flare-up of eczema has died down and it is at a more controllable level.

Consider alternating between taking showers and baths. Showers are best when you are feeling tired as baths are more likely to relax you and have you drifting off to sleep which will serve to dry your skin out excessively. If the itching and puffiness from your skin condition is driving you around a bend, soak in a lukewarm oatmeal bath for a few minutes as oatmeal has healing agents in it that will reduce swelling in the skin. Aveeno makes an excellent oatmeal treatment or else you can make your own.

Moisturizing is essential after your daily bathing ritual is completed. Always apply a moisturizing cream or lotion to your skin while it is still damp. It is important to apply moisturizer twice a day, morning and night, regardless of what time of day you bathe.
