Eczema 6

Article 6
One of the biggest enemies of eczema is stress. Stressful events or experiences can lead to a flare-up and continued stress can intensify the flare-up and cause it to last even longer. Prolonged stress can often make flare-ups come and go with greater frequency. Don’t let eczema take over your life, instead learn to control it by first controlling your stress levels. A certain level of stress in life is necessary and might even be good for you but so many people suffer from a stress overload that has them wanting to tear their hair out in frustration. Don’t let that be you! Keep stress to minimal levels by finding ways to alleviate it. Take a walk after work or in the evening to unwind and clear your head after a long day. Other activities such as practicing yoga, meditation and deep breathing can work wonders when it comes to encouraging the mind to unclutter and relax. However when a stressful situation is unavoidable, make sure you have plenty of medication on hand to cope with the inevitable.

Sunlight can be beneficial to eczema prone skin and sunlight after all aids the body in creating vitamin D. However keep in mind that eczema prone skin is very sensitive. Limit yourself to small spans of time spent outdoors and alternate between the sun’s warming rays and a cool place in the shade. Drink lots of water when you are outdoors and never let your body become dehydrated. Protect yourself by wearing sunscreen with an SPF of fifteen or thirty (or even forty-five if you are extremely fair skinned). Apply it approximately a half an hour before you go outside and reapply it every two to three hours that you are outside. If you go swimming remember that the sun’s rays are magnified in the water and you are therefore less protected from the sun while you are in the water. Make sure your skin is well covered with sunscreen when you enter the water and reapply soon after toweling off when you get out. Better yet, wear a thin tee shirt over your bathing suit so you won’t have to worry about burning at all.
